Have A Concrete Driveway? 2 Ways To Keep It In Good Condition

If you have a concrete driveway, there are many things you can do to help it last longer. This will not only help you save money but also save you a lot of time. Keep reading for two tips on how you can do this.

Pressure Wash the Driveway

Cleaning your concrete driveway is important as this will remove stains, dust, and dirt buildup. The best way to clean concrete driveways is using a pressure washer. Before you start cleaning sweep the driveway thoroughly to remove as much dust and dirt as you can. Use a wide broom to make this much easier and start at the top of the driveway and work your way down. Use a leaf blower to easily remove large things like leaves, sticks, etc.

Purchase a cleaner that is made for concrete to put in the pressure washer and mix it according to the instructions. Before you get started, purchase a degreaser at a home improvement store. There are some pressure washers that have an attachment tool that will apply degreaser If not, put the degreaser on the stain and use a stiff-bristled brush to scrub it.

Start using the pressure washer moving the wand back and forth on the concrete surface as you go. Start at the top of the driveway and move your way down. When you are finished, put clear water in the pressure washer and go over the concrete again to remove soap residue, or you can use a garden hose to rinse the driveway.

It can also be beneficial to hire professional concrete pressure washing services for your driveway as well.

Seal the Driveway

Once the driveway is clean and completely dry this is the perfect time to put a sealcoat on it. First, inspect the driveway closely to look for any damage. If you see any cracks, they need to be repaired before you apply the sealant. There are concrete crack fillers that you can purchase at a home improvement store to do this for you. If there are larger cracks or damage, contact a concrete contractor to repair them for you.

Measure the length and the width of your driveway so you purchase enough sealcoat. You can use a roller that has an extension pole to put the sealant on the driveway. Allow the first coat to dry completely and then apply a second coat on the driveway.

Sealing your driveway is beneficial as it can help prevent stains if you spill something on the driveway, such as oil or grease from cars. If you live in a snowy area sealcoating can protect your driveway from ice and other things. If you have a large driveway hire a professional to sealcoat it for you.

Along with these two things, have your driveway inspected once a year by a concrete contractor for damage that you may not see on your own.
